Rails

I reckon Ruby on Rails is looking pretty fantastic. Unlike Hibernate it doesn't try to abstract you away from the database. Instead it just hides it from you - when you need to you access it (writing your own where clauses and the like) but most of the time it's not there.

And that's kind of what I like about it - whereas Java has ended up being a purist thing, with all the design patterns and "perfect" abstractions, Rails is all about getting the job done as well as possible as quickly as possible.
